Archery Try Outs

We are excited to have tryouts for our Archery team!

Before signing up for tryouts there are a few commitments you need to be aware of if your child makes the team.

  • We will keep up to 24 archers. When we go to competitions, the top 12 scores count for the team (must have at least 4 female and 4 male scores in that 12).
  • The archery team shoots from 10 meters and from 15 meters.

Tryout process

  • Students will begin their tryout in PE class. For one week (Nov 4 - Nov 7) students who are trying out for Archery will fill out a score card during PE to be turned in to the Archery coaches.
    • If a student does not fill out a form in PE they will not be considered for a tryout
    • Attendance in PE will be necessary to have a completed form
  • Archery coaches will look over scores and choose who will try out based on how they do in PE
  • Grade 7 and 8 students will have a tryout on Monday November 18th from 3:30 - 4:30 pm. We will be shooting from 15 meters at this tryout and recording scores. Coaches will also be looking at form and coachability during this time.
  • Grade 6 students who are selected will be doing an inperson tryout on Monday November 25 and Monday December 2 from 3:30 - 4:30 pm. We will focus on 10 meter shots and move to 15 meter on the second day. Again, coaches will be looking at form and coachability during this time.
  • After these tryouts, the team will be made and team practices will start Monday January 6th from 3:30 - 4:30 and will continue each Monday going forward.

Initial Fees (the initial fee is covered by Blood Tribe funding)

  • Fees to be on the archery team are $75 (includes a t-shirt if they don't have one) and $30 for a bow rental if you do not have your own bow.
    • The only bows we can use are Genesis Original bows

Practices

  • Archers will need to attend practices which will be every Monday from 3:30 - 4:30 pm.

Competitions we attend. These fees are above the team fees listed above (these fees are not covered by Blood Tribe funding)

  • Zones: Date TBD (Usually march) - cost: $15/archer
  • Divisionals: Date TBD - cost: $15/archer
  • Provincials: March 14-16 (we will only need to be there one of these days) in Edmonton - Fee is approximately $40
    • Parents are responsible to get their archer to the competition.
    • At provincials, archers have the choice of competing in the 3D target competition. This is usually a $15-$20 fee
  • Canadian Nations: Date TBD, Location Unknown
    • This competition should be held in Edmonton this year
    • We will only attend if we place in the top 3 at Provincials.

Cross Country Form

Information:

Practices for this year's X-Country season will begin on Tuesday September 10th at 3:30 pm and continue throughout Sept. and Oct. on Tuesdays, Thursdays (3:30-5:00pm), until the last race of the season. Please make sure to have the 5:00 pick-up pre-arranged to be respectful of coaches time.

All grades are invited to join. Students will be encouraged to improve their running abilities by challenging themselves. During long runs, walking breaks can be taken when necessary but should not be frequent and should decrease in frequency as training progresses.

Students playing Volleyball or other sports may also try out for the Cross Country Team. If they make the team, they are expected to attend practices that do not conflict with their volleyball schedule.

The team fee is $30 for grade 7 and 8 and $25 for Grade 6 students. This covers a T-shirt and registration for Divisionals and Zones (only grade 7 and 8 can attend zones). Additional races will be optional and will add to the fee cost.

Outdoor runs will occur whenever possible so please make sure your child comes to school with clothing appropriate for weather conditions and a change of clothes on wet days. Running shoes are the best choice of footwear while running.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at jesse.dobson@westwind.ab.ca

We would love to have your help too! If you are interested in helping there is a place on the form to indicate so (all volunteers will need to be registered through the office with a criminal record/vulnerable sector check from the RCMP station).

To give your child permission to participate in cross country you must fill out the risk form found above.

Thank you
